What's happening is the aluminum is dissolving the copper. As you add more copper, the melting point is going up or you hit a solubility limit at your temperature. (I'm not entirely sure what the phase diagram looks like). Also you probably don't want that much copper in your aluminum, or that much aluminum in your copper.
